Welcome to Bookary ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Bookary mobile application (the "App").

1. Information Collection and Use

Bookary is designed to be a privacy-first application. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to our servers.

All your book tracking data, reading history, and preferences are stored locally on your device using local storage databases.

2. Camera and Image Processing

The App requires access to your device's Camera to function.

Purpose: The camera is used exclusively to scan physical book covers, text, and barcodes to identify books and extract text using on-device OCR technology.
No Image Storage or Transmission: Images are processed locally on your device in real-time. We do not save your photos or upload image data to our servers.

3. Network Usage and Third-Party APIs

While Bookary stores your personal library locally, it may require Internet Access to fetch book metadata such as titles, authors, and cover images.

When you scan or search for a book, the App may send extracted text queries (such as title or ISBN) to public APIs and search providers.
These may include services such as Google Books, Open Library, DuckDuckGo, Goodreads, or equivalent metadata providers.
No Personal Data is Shared: Only the search query is transmitted. Your identity, device files, or private library data are not shared.
Promotions and Third-Party Links The app may display promotional content and links to third-party services or affiliate partners (such as external shopping apps). We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Because our promotional engine is built to be “Offline-First”, we do not transmit your Advertising ID (AAID/IDFA), IP address, or behavioral data to fetch these promotions.
Third-Party AI Processing Bookary uses third-party AI services to power the AI Assistant in Writer Mode. When you use these features, the specific text you select or your book's metadata (such as titles and genres) may be sent to our AI providers to generate responses or images. We do not use your private manuscripts to train AI models, and only the explicitly requested text is shared for processing.
Local Storage Clarification All your books, chapters, and inserted images in Writer Mode are stored locally and securely on your device. Bookary does not upload your manuscripts or private writings to our servers.
Storage Permissions Bookary requests access to your device's Camera and Photo Gallery solely to allow you to import images for your book covers and chapters. We also request Storage permissions to export your finished books (as PDF, EPUB, or TXT) directly to your device. We do not access or collect any photos or files outside of those you explicitly choose to use within the app.

4. Data Security

Because your personal data remains on your device, security depends on your device protection. We recommend using a passcode, PIN, or biometric lock.

If you uninstall the App or clear app storage, your local library may be permanently deleted unless backed up manually.

5. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
